| MGM Chemical Spill Sickens Dozens |

There were high concentrations of a chemical similar to bleach that seeped into a pool at the MGM Grand on the Las Vegas Strip on Friday, causing hotel officials to evacuate some 1,500 guests and sending at least 26 people to local hospitals with breathing problems.
Richard Brenner of the Clark County Fire Department said sodium hypochlorite went into the hotel’s lazy river pool when a valve used to the control the chemical malfunctioned and remained on.
“People started smelling chlorine,” Brenner said. “It doesn’t take much to set our nose off.”

| Lawsuit filed against lead in bounce houses |

Parents love bounce houses and children love bouncing in them. However, according to Attorney General Jerry Brown of California, it may also be toxic.
A lawsuit was filed on Wednesday by Mr. Brown’s office and claims that some of the inflatable bounce houses that help entertain young children at parties have unsafe levels of lead, sometimes dozens of times the federal limit.

| Salmonella outbreak in L.A. County |

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health warned the people of L.A. County Tuesday of two nationwide food recalls linked to salmonella. The tainted products are for certain eggs shipped from Wright County Egg company of Galt, Iowa and frozen mamey pulp fruit from COCO S.A. of Guatemala, according to a statement by the department

| Fire Captain in Richmond charged in fatal boat crash |

Fire Captain Steven Nixon, from Richmond, was injured in a boating accident on the Rappahannock River last month and is facing felony charges related to the crash.
Nixon is facing involuntary manslaughter charges as well as six other felonies in the crash that killed his brother’s fiancee Amanda Brady, a Henrico school teacher. The Fire Captain’s son and wife also suffered serious injuries.

| Fatal head-on collision on I-215 causes freeway closure |

A fatal car accident occurred on the I-215 in Salt Lake County. A Toyota Camry traveling the wrong direction westbound on I-215 collided head-on with a tanker truck which caused a massive fire this morning. Unified Fire Authority states the accident occurred on I-215 westbound at 6200 South and 2300 East at around 10 a.m and confirmed the driver of the car was killed in the accident.
