Drive Safe Tips 2017

|

Each year, the CDC reports over a million car accidents nationwide. As we move into 2017, now is as good a time as any to consider safer driving habits as one of your New Year’s resolutions. At Berthold Law Firm, PLLC, we have many clients who suffer life-altering injuries as a result of negligent drivers. Some clients are worried about their livelihood and their family’s livelihood due to their inability to continue working in the same profession. This year, commit to saving lives by driving safer. Below are three tips for driving safe in 2017.

1.Don’t Text & Drive

Texting and driving is illegal and incredibly unsafe. So many drivers continue this practice despite the myriad of studies published pointing to evidence that texting while driving puts you at a much higher risk of accidents. This year, make a deal with yourself to stop texting and driving. When you get in the car, put your phone on Do Not Disturb, so you won’t be tempted to answer a text message.

2.Don’t Drink and & Drive

With so many ridesharing applications on the market and the proclivity for most Americans to carry a smart phone, there is no excuse for driving home drunk. Save phone number of a local taxi in your phone or open up a Lyft or Uber account to ensure you have a plan to get home safely.

3.Slow Down

Speed limits are set for the safety of drivers on the road, yet drivers everywhere seem to have a need for speed. Driving down the highway on any given day and you can see drivers going 5, 10, or even 20 miles over the speed limit. Many car accidents are caused by speeding or losing control after speeding. This year make a pact to stick to the speed limit.

The attorneys from Berthold Law Firm, PLLC hope you and yours have a happy, accident-free 2017. If you are injured by a negligent driver, don’t hesitate to contact our Charleston attorneys.
